- Switch the battery toggle switch to
ONin the top left corner. - Wait for the screen to display the current information, indicating that the keyboard has powered on.
- If not connected to a device, the keyboard indicator light will flash blue, indicating that it is waiting for a Bluetooth connection.
- In the Bluetooth settings of the desired device, search for and connect to
Schnell Keypad. - Once connected, you can start using the keyboard.
INFO
If you want to switch to a different device, make sure to turn off Bluetooth or remove Schnell Keypad from the original connected device before connecting to a new one!

- Connect the keyboard to the desired device using a USB Type-C cable with data transmission capability.
- The keyboard should automatically power on. If it is in sleep mode, press both sleep/wake keys simultaneously to wake it up.
- Once powered on, you can start using the keyboard.
System Key
System keys are designed for switching keyboard modes, settings, and other purposes. Currently, the functions related to system keys are fixed (customization may be available in the future).
Please refer to the table below for the current system key descriptions and modes:
| Short Press | Long Press | |
|---|---|---|
| System Key 1 | Switch between Normal/Key Display Mode | Sleep Mode |
| System Key 2 | Turn off screen display | Lock Mode |
| System Key 3 | Switch between Bluetooth/Wired Mode | Switch between Normal Mode/WiFi Mode |
| Pressing System Key 1 + 2 | N/A | Long press for 5 seconds to reset key mappings |
Here are the explanations for various special modes:
| Mode Name | Mode Description |
|---|---|
| Key Display Mode | Pressing a key will only display the key information on the screen without actually triggering the key. This mode allows you to quickly check the functions assigned to each key. |
| Sleep Mode | Enters low-power deep sleep and ends any connections. You can wake up the keyboard by pressing both sleep/wake keys (it is not a complete shutdown). |
| Screen Off Mode | Completely turns off the OLED screen. If not in sleep mode, the status indicator light will display the keyboard status. (In normal mode, the screen will automatically enter protection mode after a period of time, and any key can light up the screen) |
| Lock Mode | Once in lock mode, the keyboard will not automatically enter sleep mode (it will also not enter sleep mode in wired mode). |
| WiFi Mode | This mode is required for key mapping and other operations. You can configure the keyboard through other devices on the same network. |
Left/Right Toggle Switch
There is a left/right toggle switch below the main knob, which is mainly used to switch between layers/layouts.
By toggling left or right, you can quickly switch between different layers, and a single click will quickly return to the initial layer (Layer 0).
System Indicator LED
The system indicator LED is located above the main knob on the right side and is used to display various keyboard statuses (it will turn off to save power in normal situations).
| Keyboard Status Indicator LED Color | Status Description |
|---|---|
| Flashing Blue | Bluetooth is waiting to connect |
| Solid Green | USB is connected/charging |
| Flashing Red | Battery is low |
Keymap Update / Customization

- The keyboard screen will display "Config Updated!" when the configuration is completed.
You can update the keyboard's WiFi settings to automatically connect to the local network, making it easier to configure next time.
There are two ways to achieve this:
- Wireless Method: 1. Connect to the Schnell Keypad WiFi AP as mentioned above. 2. After successful connection, open the browser and go to the keyboard's local configuration webpage: http://schnell.local/ (It may take some time for the first use and allow the browser to access "insecure content"). 3. If connected in AP mode, update the network settings on the right side (only supports 2.4GHz WiFi networks and must be in the same local network as the configuring device).
- Wired Method (only for computers, the keyboard needs to be in WiFi mode for wired configuration): 1. Connect the keyboard to the computer via USB cable. 2. Open the browser and go to the configuration webpage: https://blog.driftking.tw/Schnell-Keypad-Configuration-Tool/. 3. Click "Install Firmware" on the webpage. 4. A dialog box will appear, select the device starting with "ESP32-S3". 5. Click "Connect". 6. After successful connection, the firmware dialog box will appear. 7. Choose "CONNECT TO WIFI". 8. Follow the prompts to select the desired hotspot for connection. 9. After successful connection, the WiFi settings are completed.
WARNING
If you can access http://schnell.local/ but cannot connect to the keyboard on the key mapping webpage, please disable security blocking next to the URL in the key mapping webpage.
- Click on "Site Settings"

- Find the option "Insecure Content" and change it to "Allow"

- Refresh the settings page, and you will be able to connect to the keyboard and update it directly.
